Acupuncture

Balance your body

Acupuncture has a regulating effect and restores the body’s balance by allowing Qi (chee) to flow freely to nourish the body and in turn support its natural ability to restore health. Very fine, flexible, sterile single-use acupuncture needles (1/4 of a millimetre) are gently inserted into specific points throughout the body and retained for a period between 15 and 30 minutes. Acupuncture has been found to be as equally effective as analgesic drugs to reduce pain and is effective to treat conditions such as chronic pain, arthritis, headache and sports injuries (Medibank, 2014).

The effectiveness of Acupuncture is not only limited to pain reduction. It can be applied to treat other conditions such as emotional disorders, digestive complaints, gynaecological and fertility conditions, and respiratory problems. From a biomedical perspective Acupuncture exhibits a neurological, hormonal and local tissue influence; meaning that it can be applied to reduce pain and stress levels, regulate mood and hormonal levels, regulate the immune response and accelerate the healing process after surgery or injury.

Upon insertion of the acupuncture needles people may feel a heavy, dull, throbbing or buzzing sensation and often they will feel extremely relaxed and fall asleep.
